Two products revealed as Darklight becomes Gantom

California, US-based Darklight Precision Lighting System has changed its name to Gantom Lighting & Controls – launching two new products in the process. Gantom is a portmanteau of “Gan”, the last name of co-founder Quan Gan, and “phantom”, a nod to the company’s origins in the Halloween attraction business.

The company is introducing two new products to its premium Gantom line: the ‘Gantom One’ pinspot and the ‘DMX Programmer’ app for the iPhone. Both will be displayed at the LDI show in Las Vegas being held between November 17-23.

Gantom One is an LED-based reinterpretation of the standard pinspot fixture used in event lighting. It has been designed to be smaller, lighter and more energy efficient, while offering superior optics.

According to the manufacturer, it draws about one-eighth as much power than a traditional pinspot – four watts as opposed to 30 watts. Because it uses LEDs, the need for lamp replacement is completely eliminated. The Gantom One also features a magnetic accessory mounting system that allows the user to easily adjust the optics as needed.

The DMX Programmer app replaces an earlier, 4-button device called the ‘DarkBox Programmer’ which configured addresses and presets for Gantom’s DMX lighting fixtures.

The new app offers a more user friendly touch interface and uses a patent pending technology that encodes control signals over the mobile device’s audio port directly to the controlled fixture. It is available as a free download from the App Store, while an Android version of the app will follow soon.
